KDB Law introduces new scholarship for women in legal field

KDB Law, an all-women law firm based in Stratford, has launched a scholarship program to support women pursuing careers in the legal profession.

Lawyer Katie DeBlock Boersma, the owner and founder of KDB Law, explained that the firm is committed to supporting young women entering the legal field.

“There’s two components to it: so we’re interested in both some financial assistance because paying for school is crazy expensive these days, and then there’s also a mentorship component to the scholarship as well,” said DeBlock Boersma.

“We’re also interested in connecting with women looking and going into the legal field.”

The scholarship offers a $5,000 financial award and an opportunity to connect with the KDB Law team.

DeBlock Boersma said they’re looking to expand into a mentorship program beyond this scholarship and just law students, reflecting the firm’s ongoing commitment to fostering female talent in the legal industry.

“To anyone interested in applying if they’re on the fence, please do. Only one person can receive the scholarship, but we are so excited to meet young women who are interested in the legal field, whether it’s having a coffee or connecting, answering any questions they might have about what we do or our experience in law school,” she said.

“We’re just really excited to be getting connected more broadly with women in the industry.”

To apply for the KDB Law scholarship, interested candidates must submit their applications by Sept. 30.

The application requires a cover letter, a resume, and a short personal statement of 500 words. The personal statement should address one of three provided topics related to the applicant’s interest in the legal field.

This scholarship is open to Canadian women currently enrolled in any year of law school.

Candidates can find more information or request assistance by emailing or calling the KDB firm directly.
