Garlic Festival to feature 70-plus vendors, pairing ideas and some chef secrets

When organizers of the annual Stratford Garlic Festival started their event, back in 2007, the garlic industry in the province was not doing so well.

Over the years, though, the garlic industry in Ontario has rebounded well and there continues to be optimism ahead of the local festival, which runs Sept. 7-8.

Festival volunteer Don Scott says the event at the Stratford Rotary Complex celebrates the recovery of the garlic industry, and offers a diverse itinerary.

“More than garlic, (we have) given people in Perth and surrounding counties a chance to come in and tell us all about themselves.”

The festival will feature more than 70 vendors with Saturday’s popular tastings and pairings featuring combos like bison with wine and popcorn. Sunday is presentation day with chefs stopping by to share some secrets.

Scott says it’s a great way to learn more about garlic and its possibilities and support those that work in the industry directly or indirectly.

“Come on out and support our growers, artisans and all the people that are there.”

The event runs from 9-5 on Saturday, Sept. 7 and 10-4 the following day.
