Music and mental health feature at Summer Jam Fest

Local teacher Aleigha Ehgoetz has seen the impact of mental health on her students.

She has also struggled with her own mental health at times.

Ehgoetz has founded Summer Jam Fest, a unique fundraiser that combines music and mental health awareness.

The benefit concert for the Canadian Mental Health Association Huron Perth is Sunday at the Player’s Backstage at the Stratford Perth Museum.

“I just thought music was a great way to bring people together and the Stratford Perth Museum has the perfect outdoor venue.”

Robyn Ottolini is the headliner. Originally from Uxbridge, she now lives in Nashville, with a musical style described as new country.

Opening up for her is Coty Robinson. Celly Myles and Hannah Thomas are among the local talent.

Ehgoetz said there are not a lot of fundraisers for mental health services.

“I am very passionate about mental health and advocating for mental health and I feel like it is something that is underfunded.”

The concert will also feature food trucks and merchandise. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music should start around 7 p.m.
