Community gathering Thursday night at Rotary Complex

A community gathering scheduled for tonight aims to help residents come to grips and heal after the shootings on Bradshaw Drive.

Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma talked to the Council of Churches, Stratford Police Service, Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and Victim Services Huron Perth about organizing an event to bring the community together.

All of those organizations are expected to have representation at the gathering, which runs from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Stratford Rotary Complex.

The mayor says its an informal set-up and local leaders are there to help.

“It’s rubbing shoulders and sharing stories and emotions.”

Ricky Bilcke shot three victims after a neighbour dispute in the north end of Stratford on Aug. 1, before ending his own life. The shooter killed Jonathan Bennett.

David Tokley was also shot and is recovering from life-threatening injuries. Bennett’s partner, Stephanie Irvine, continues her recovery from life-altering injuries.

Ritsma said the incident has impacted many and it’s important to offer a chance to get together and talk.
