Learn more from OPP about frauds and scams

Frauds and scams just keep continuing in Perth County and beyond.

Police encourage attendance at an information session about frauds and scams at Parkview Gardens, in Listowel, on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.

There are many examples of frauds, including two recent ones in the county.

A Perth East resident was recently defrauded of $7,000 – sent to Quebec after a fraudster pretended to be a grandson in need of cash.

Another is out $40,000 after sending Apple gift cards to someone they thought was a celebrity.

Perth OPP encourage everyone to stay alert and educated to reduce the risk of fraud.

Never give away personal information including your social insurance number, banking, address or birthday. Instead, hang-up the phone and block the phone number.

Keep an eye out for e-mails, text-messages or phone calls at odd times of the night, creating a false sense of urgency, spelling errors, poor punctuation, automated messages, random links or attachments, and generic business or company names.
