Don’t forget your food donation at free concert Saturday

It’s an indoor tailgate party with a big musical influence.

Stratford Fighting Irish are hosting a free concert on Saturday, featuring Emm Gryner and Upside of Maybe, two much-loved and well-regarded, local musical performers.

JJ the DJ will also oversee the night at the Stratford Rotary Complex.

Fighting Irish president Jamie Petrie says the senior men’s hockey club hopes to have a concert every year around the start of the season.

“We just want people to come and have a good time. Let’s kick off the year. And instead of doing a tailgate party for our home opener, this is our tailgate but it’s going to be inside.”

It’s also a fundraiser for Stratford House of Blessing, with Petrie encouraging everyone to bring a food donation in lieu of a cover charge.

The Fighting Irish have also teamed up with Armchair Chirpers, a group of local podcasters, for an equipment drive at the Fighting Irish home opener on Oct. 5 against Elora.

“Time to get rid of some of that old stuff that has been sitting around.”

You can drop off used skates, helmets and gloves.

Each donation gets a raffle ticket, for a prize pack.

All equipment goes to Stratford Rotary Hockey.
