All Wheels Park will be a hub of activity on Saturday.
The annual SK8 JAM 4 SAM fundraiser is all set to go, as local skateboard enthusiasts remember the life of Sam Beauchamp.Â
Sam was a much-loved member of Stratford’s skateboarding community, organizers said. Diagnosed with a brain tumour at a young age, he spent years in and out of treatment, inspiring with his fight and love for skateboarding and helping to grow its presence.
He spent the last part of his life at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth.
Organizer Brendon Whetham, says Saturday’s event is a fundraiser for the local hospice, and they are hoping to donate $3,000.
“I think that’s quite attainable and it changes people’s lives…we want to do big things for the hospice.”
Whetham says there are art pieces at All Wheels Park that Sam left behind – a reminder of his tenacity and desire to see the Stratford skateboarding community continue to grow, against the backdrop of a difficult diagnosis.
Sam passed away in August, 2022.
Whetham says the skateboarding community in Stratford is small and tightknit, but they would like to see more people give it a try – with helpful veterans always ready to provide some tips and tricks.
“Would love to see new youth come out. We give prizes to all kids and try and make it inclusive for everyone.”
Registration starts at noon, with skate competitions set to start around 1 p.m.
