United Way Perth Huron fundraising campaign off to a good start

It’s a busy time of year for United Way Perth Huron.

The fundraising campaign is off and running, with a lofty goal of $2.624 million – a big jump of $300,000 from the last campaign.

Executive director Ryan Erb says the campaign is off to a good start.

“We are a little bit ahead this year compared to last year, which is great news we are so excited about the generosity we have seen early.”

Inflation has impacted just about everyone locally, Erb says, including working residents who were getting by until relatively recently.

Erb said that’s where programs like the ‘urgent needs fund’ are beneficial, to help people in a time of crisis, when they may not have enough money for family groceries.

“We need to be there for our neighbours.”

A couple of other initiatives are rolling along for the local United Way.

The Taylor Swift ticket raffle is more than two-thirds sold out. The draw date is Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The charity raffle supports the organization’s Speak up for Housing campaign, which highlights the impact of rising housing costs. It is organized by its Social Research & Planning Council.

“Not many people understand the depth of the problem. I think we know it’s a big issue. We all calling it a crisis. But what we are trying to help people understand – this is a problem for almost everyone now.”
