Perth County OPP conducting traffic campaign over long weekend

Perth County OPP are reminding motorists to drive safe this upcoming long weekend.

Police are conducting a Thanksgiving weekend traffic campaign running today until Monday.

With the long weekend bringing heavier-than-normal traffic volumes, the OPP campaign is aimed to deter aggressive and other high-risk behaviours in order to reduce the possibility of accidents and injuries.

During the four-day traffic initiative, the OPP will conduct robust enforcement and education on many dangerous driving practices, such as alcohol or drug-impaired driving, aggressive or distracted driving, as well as improper use of seatbelts.

Almost 300 lives have been lost on OPP patrolled roads so far in 2024.

Deaths linked to driver inattention are up 40 per cent over this time last year.

Fatalities for cyclists and pedestrians are up 100 per cent and 82 per cent, respectively,  over this time last year. Motorcyclist deaths are up 41 per cent.

Perth County OPP ask people to do their part to keep the roads safe so that everyone can enjoy this Thanksgiving weekend.
