It will be a chance to talk shop when members of the Ontario Auto Mayors gather in Stratford on Friday.
Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma said mayors will meet at the Tom Patterson Theatre to discuss topics of interest around the auto sector in Ontario, one of the province’s biggest employers and a major economic generator.
“We know the impact of the auto sector in Ontario. Ontario is one of the largest manufacturing regions in North America and we know that.”
Ritsma expects discussion around trade agreements, auto theft, EV production and projects, skilled labour and Volkswagon investment.
Guest speakers will also feature.
Per its website, the mayor’s group works collaboratively at provincial and federal levels “to promote awareness, advocacy and strategic policy initiatives to further strengthen the Canadian economy through advancements and investments in the automotive sector.”
Ritsma said Stratford and surrounding area have a long automotive history, with some newer companies as well as those established as mainstays.
“We continue that growth with companies like Aisin, Dyna-Mig, TJ Minto, FIO, Hayashi, all are a big part of our automotive sector.”
As many as 20 mayors are expected to attend.
