A new partnership aims to educate about services that can help the 2SLGBTQ+ community, while determining if there are enough of them, and gathering information on individual experiences with discrimination and exclusion.
United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research & Planning Council and the University of Guelph are partnering up for a study that focuses on the experiences of local 2SLGBTQ+ people.
Kristin Crane, United Way’s Director, Community Impact and Research, said the organization remains committed to helping create a more inclusive community.
Crane says not enough knowledge exists around what services can help, and there needs to be more data on the diverse amount of ways people experience being 2SLGBTQ+ in Perth and Huron.
Research will include a 10 minute survey for ages 12 and over, who are part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, or people working or volunteering with organizations providing services to 2SLGBTQ+ people.
Research will explore experiences of discrimination and exclusion and identify opportunities to build more diverse and equitable services and develop recommendations based on the priorities of the local 2SLGBTQ+ community.
