During the planning stages for TEDx Stratford, organizers wanted a big ticket topic, but also wanted it to be relative to communities similar in size to the Festival City.
Alan Kasperski said there is an awful lot of discussion about homelessness, affordability, attainable living and what types of residences to plan for, and build.
“So we decided we would try to tie in the three speakers into one theme. Housing seemed to be top of mind with so many people. For so many different reasons.”
Kasperski and other organizers didn’t just want facts and figures resuscitated, or information on government housing targets.
“We wanted to have something that people could be inspired by, also motivated by.”
Speakers include Michael Moffatt, a Senior Director of Policy and Innovation at the Smart Prosperity Institute; Anneke Smit, Associate Professor, University of Windsor, and the founder and inaugural Director of the Centre for Cities (C4C) at Windsor Law and Paul Kalbfleisch, former VP of creativity and brand strategy for Research in Motion.
TEDx aims to inspire through thoughtful dialogue, with dynamic speakers addressing impactful topics.
Kasperski hopes they motivate others to get involved with projects in Stratford and area, or guests endeavor to learn more about housing issues.
The event on Thursday at Lazaridis Hall is sold out, however, Ballinran Entertainment is filming and it will be uploaded to the TEDx YouTube Channel, so more can watch.
Organizers hope it can become a recurring event.
