Attempted arson on Monteith Avenue Tuesday evening

A suspect is in police custody and is charged with arson after an incident earlier this week on Monteith Avenue in Stratford.

On Tuesday, Stratford Police and the Stratford Fire Department were called to the Superior Propane location around 5:30 p.m.

Chief Neil Anderson from the Stratford Fire Department explained they discovered a small fire under the large propane storage tank that was immediately put out by a fire extinguisher.

Inspector Jason Clarke from the Stratford Police confirmed that a suspect was arrested and charged with arson in connection to the incident.

No substantial damage or injuries were reported.

Some nearby residents were evacuated from their homes during the incident, but were allowed to return home around 7:30 p.m., after an all-clear Facebook post from the Stratford Police.

The 20-year-old female suspect had a bail hearing on Nov. 13.
