The City of Stratford is a step closer to getting a new integrity commissioner.
A staff report in Monday night’s city council agenda includes a recommendation to appoint David Boghosian, managing partner of Boghosian + Allen LLP, as the city’s integrity commissioner until Dec. 31, 2026, with an option to renew.
Per the report, the integrity commissioner provides advice and education to council and can conduct inquiries of council and local boards, to determine if they have contravened code of conduct or the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.
According to the Municipal Act, all municipalities must appoint an integrity commissioner.
Mandatory requirements adopted by council resolution for the position include a minimum of 10 years of legal or quasi-judicial experience or senior management experience and satisfactory references for integrity commissioner services.
The city received four applications for the position. Two were shortlisted and interviewed. Boghosian has more than three decades of experience providing legal services to municipalities including integrity commissioner services.
Boghosian is the current integrity commissioner for Hamilton and Sudbury and other municipalities.
The staff report says it important for council and the public to understand the role and purpose of the position, the impact of the office and how to communicate with the integrity commissioner.
Stratford city council’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. tonight.
