The holiday season is upon us and Stratford House of Blessing’s Christmas food drive is Saturday at four different locations.
Aaron Balzer, resource coordinator with the local food bank, said residents can donate food and other staples at Food Basics, No Frills, Walmart and Zehrs, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We will have trucks and carts outside. We’ll have members of the fire department and the police will be in some of the stores. It’s a great time that the community really does come together to help us.”
Balzer said any non-perishable items are always useful. Currently, the most needed items are staples such as crackers and cookies, side dishes, soups, canned meats, peanut butter and canned fruits.
The food bank also needs hygiene items that may get overlooked during a food drive, including toothpaste, feminine hygiene products and soap.
“We are always looking for those things as well.”
Balzer said the organization could still use a few volunteers to help out on Saturday. You can find more information at shob.org.
