Stratford Festival’s tight-knit community is mourning the loss of Bobby Garcia.
In announcing his death, the festival offered condolences to his family, friends and colleagues struggling with his sudden loss.
Garcia was set to make his Stratford directorial debut at the helm of next season’s much anticipated Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
“We were greatly looking forward to seeing his work on our stages. He was an extremely accomplished director, brimming with talent, and also an extraordinary, kind and gentle human being.”Â
The festival is dedicating the 2025 production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to Garcia’s memory. Garcia withdrew from his role earlier this month due to health reasons.
“We know the entire cast and creative team, led by Tracey Flye, who has stepped in to direct, will make his spirit proud of the beauty and joy that he set in motion.”
Flye is returning for her fourth season with the festival, and makes her Stratford directorial debut. She served as choreographer for the 2010 productions of Evita and Kiss Me Kate.
The Stratford Festival’s 2025 season includes As You Like It, Annie, Sense and Sensibility, Dangerous Liaisons, Macbeth, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Anne of Green Gables, The Winter’s Tale, Forgiveness, Ransacking Troy and The Art of War.
