Auditions start tonight for St. Marys Community Players spring production

St.Marys Community Players 2025 season is exploring themes of family, love and the challenges of growing up.

Auditions start tonight (Jan. 10) for its spring production of Over the River and Through the Woods by Joe DiPietro.

The play is described as a heartwarming comedy about family, love, and challenges of change and moving on.

The story follows Nick, a young Italian-American facing pressure from both sets of overbearing grandparents who want him to find a girlfriend and settle down.

Nick learns valuable lessons about the importance of love, sacrifice, and the enduring bonds of family.

The production is directed by Phyllis Leighton, with performances April 24 to May 10.

Group auditions run until Sunday (Jan. 12) at St. Marys Presbyterian Church.

Co-producer Greg George said it will be a relaxed audition process.

“We’re trying to welcome as many people as we can to an inviting atmosphere, a fun atmosphere, where they can really get their chance to shine and show their stuff.”

For those auditioning, you are asked to prepare a monologue, poem or story one to two minutes in length.

They are six roles, including Nick and both sets of grandparents, and Nick’s love interest, Caitlin.

George said community theatre offers mentorship on and off stage.

“It’s an opportunity for people to get involved. It’s a fun environment, it’s a supportive environment, it also is an environment where people can hone their crafts, get to know some new people, and join the community.”

Rehearsals start Jan. 15, Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

You can book your audition now by contacting info@stmaryscommunityplayers.ca.
