Grants of up to $3K available this summer for student start-ups

If you have a great idea for a business this summer, funding help may be available.

Stratford Perth Centre for Business has opened the application process for Summer Company, which helps students ages 15 to 29 start their own summer business.

Funded by the provincial government, the program is delivered through Stratford Perth Centre for Business, which provides mentorship, hands-on training and up to $3,000 for eight students, helping turn their business ideas into reality.

“Every year we see a continued, keen interest in the Summer Company program from students looking to spend their summer exploring entrepreneurship and learning how to handle running their own business,” said Holly Mortimer, a business advisor at the Stratford Perth Centre for Business. “This grant allows us to continue educating and encouraging the next generation of business owners.”

The centre said it has helped launch dozens of businesses over the past 10 years and many of those have turned into full-time enterprises.

Participants in the current program receive $1,500 for start-up costs and the remaining $1,500 at the end of the summer, upon the completion of the program.

If interested you must register and complete an application by May 16.
