Soup’s On offers a tasty reprieve for the winter chills

The worst of the winter season is no match for Soup’s On.

The fundraiser for Alzheimer Society Huron Perth offers delicious soups to warm body and soul.

Saturday’s annual event at Stratford Rotary Complex doubles as the 30th anniversary.

Erin Dale from Alzheimer Society Huron Perth said organizers don’t provide advance notice of the various flavours and recipes that everyone looks forward to, but there will again be awards for tops soups, including the people’s choice.

Dale says more than 150 volunteers are the secret ingredient to making it all work, and the aptly named ‘green team’ is part and parcel to that effort.

“We pride ourselves on making sure the event is as environmentally sustainable as possible, we try to have less than five bags of garbage total.”

She says with more than 2,000 people expected, that’s something to be proud of.
There are more than 130 items in a silent auction, including a four-course, family style dinner with a high end wine pairing, prepared by a private chef.
There are also plenty of musical guests.
Admission by donation will be matched up to $30,000 by a gracious community member.
January is also Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. You can find more events, including educational opportunities online.
