Stratford police charge unlicensed taxi operators

Stratford police have laid charges against unlicensed rideshare operators.

A city taxi bylaw requires a valid taxi license and insurance for anyone providing a vehicle for hire.

Unlicensed rideshare companies and individuals who are neither licensed nor insured, who are charging for picking up and dropping off passengers face fines under the by-law.

Licensed taxies have a valid taxi number plate on the exterior of the vehicle, and a licensed driver can be identified by an official photo taxi driver license displayed inside the vehicle.

Police encourage anyone who is aware of illegal rideshare operators conducting business in the city to contact them.

Anyone interested in obtaining a taxi license can contact Stratford Police Service at 519-271-4147 ext. 8235.
