Mystic of Millbank’s legacy being explored through interactive event

A famed local clairvoyant’s legacy is being explored through interactive performances at the Stratford Perth Museum.

The Charms of Vera McNichol with Ron Kennell and Guests are community conversations with excerpts from Kennell’s new play, The Devil’s in the Details:The Wonder of Vera McNichol.

McNichol, also known as the Mystic of Millbank, had more than 250,000 people from Canada and the United States visit to get a glimpse of their futures, according to the Stratford-Perth Archives.

The religious psychic did not have a telephone or make appointments.

All readings took place in her kitchen and were done using two sets of playing cards. One of the decks would show the past and the second was used to predict the future.

Now, professional theatre artist and local intuitive citizen, Ron Kennell, said his past familial connections to Vera has inspired him to write his first play.

Kennell also wants to hear attendees’ stories about McNichol, to help him put the finishing touches on his play.

“Just so I can have a little bit more of a connection with the community that Vera served.”

The museum had one sold out show last Saturday (Jan. 25), and due to overwhelming response, are now planning two more events in February.
