New funding for emergency shelter, affordable housing

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae has announced $1.86 million in funding to create more emergency shelter spaces and affordable housing units.

It includes $300,000 towards the City of Stratford’s ‘Out of the Cold’ program to create six shelter beds.

Another $200,000 is earmarked to the United Housing Music Hall Apartments, through United Way Perth-Huron. Funds go towards renovation of a second story space in downtown Listowel, creating 10 new mixed income units.

Also announced was $42,473 for Supportive Stratford for 12 housing units, providing relief for unsheltered people and addressing supportive housing.

Rae said accommodations will provide vulnerable people with appropriate short and long-term housing options.

Funding was also announced for two Wellington County projects – Welcome to Waterloo and Encampment Response Initiative Funding.
