Another wintry wallop collides with Family Day weekend

Road closures, heavy winds, blizzard-like conditions, and oh so much snow.

The Family Day weekend offered an extra day off for many in Stratford and Perth County, but many went back to work Tuesday with aching backs after shoveling out of another wintry blast.

Environment Canada listed snow warnings, watches and heavy snowfall that started Saturday. A blowing snow advisory on Family Day led to the Township of Perth East pulling their plows off the road, due to white out conditions and safety concerns.

West Perth also took their plows off the roads until early Tuesday (Feb. 18).

OPP closed other roads in the county throughout the weekend.

Bruce County also pulled their plows.

Despite the warnings, many social media users were busy asking about road conditions as they intended to give travel a go if possible.

Jay Leis, who drives SNOWFORCE 1, and regularly updates his social media with road conditions after he plows highways, said snow drifts and poor visibility left a simple choice: it was best to spend Family Day with family at home.
