Fundraising hockey game sees local star take to the ice in L.A.

The Skate for L.A. Strong charity hockey game took place Sunday (Feb. 23) and Stratford’s own Justin Bieber competed in the high-profile game.

Teams were made up of first responders, celebrities and NHL alumni who took to the ice in support of relief efforts for the Los Angeles wildfires.

The game was held at the Crypto.com Arena in L.A. and consisted of four teams who played in two semifinals that featured two 10-minute periods and a running clock.

Team Red had coaches Vince Vaughn and Cobie Smulders and Team Black had Will Ferrell and Snoop Dogg. Danny Devito and Al Michaels were Team Blue captains and Hannah Stocking and Andrew Whitworth for Team White.

Team Red eventually came out on top.

London’s own Jackie Redmond was an NHL correspondent and interviewed Bieber on the bench for the NHL network asking him what it means to be involved in the game.

“This is everything, I mean we’re just looking to have a good time and just show that when we all come together, good things can happen,” said Bieber.

Many are still recovering from the disaster, as the Palisades Fire was the most destructive in Los Angeles history and has resulted in financial losses totaling more than $250 billion.
