Perth-Wellington MPP issues statement regarding Ontario’s response to tariffs

While the country is responding to the tariffs U.S. President Donald Trump has placed on Canadian goods as of Tuesday (March 4), the local MPP for the region says the provincial government will be there for Ontarians.

Matthew Rae, MPP for Perth-Wellington, had plenty to say in a media release.

“Today, President Trump has decided to violate the Canada-United States-Mexico trade agreement, a trade deal he signed in his first term, by leveeing a 25 per cent tariff on all Canadian goods. Premier Ford has been clear since day one, Ontario will use every tool in our toolbox to respond to these unjust tariffs.”

Rae explains that “Canadians are a strong and resilient people. We will weather this storm and emerge stronger.”

The MPP expressed that his office is available to take calls or emails in regards to this or any matters related to the province.

You can call his office at 519-272-0660 or email [email protected].

Rae said that his “office will continue to work with all levels of government, our economic development corporations, and chambers of commerce to coordinate our responses and relief measures as necessary.”

“The Government of Ontario will be there for our families, our workers, our businesses—all of us.”
