Local humane society sees record demand for outreach services, lots of programs planned for March

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth have lots of upcoming programming planned.

After announcing that the organization has seen record breaking demand for its outreach services, it’s important to support the work the humane society does.

In the past two months, the team has provided medical care to 120 animals in need, and delivered more than $16,000 worth of essential veterinary services and vaccinations.

Additionally, they helped 1510 pets with supplies to families facing financial hardships.

The humane society says that as the demand for these services continues to grow,  community support is essential.

The organization is running its March Break Camp next week (March 10 – 14) and has presenters, activities, and time with the animals on the docket.

There are some last-minute single day spots available.

After March Break, they are offering Tots and Tails program for 18 months to 3-year-old children, or Tiny Tails for babies aged 0 – 18 months.

The programs run for 45-minutes and allow babies and caregivers to meet the animals and have some sensory age-appropriate play.

The humane society also has a Jr. Vet Club starting in Stratford on April 3, running for 3 weeks.

This condensed program runs Thursdays from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Cree Toner, community program supervisor at Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth, explains the premise of the program.

“Every single week the kids will be taught by a vet or a vet tech who have planned a really fun lesson for them.”

For the last week of the program, they will conduct a teddy bear clinic, a chance to use the skills the young participants have learned.

And to end March, the humane society is hosting its Paws for Laughs on March 28 at 8 p.m.

Toner says they’ve got some great entertainment lined up.

“So if you’re looking for a fun way to spend your Friday, plus a great way to support us, we would absolutely love to see you there.”

The event will be held at the Stratford Country Club.
