‘A treat for everyone’: Rehearsals underway for six shows at Stratford Festival

Preparations continue in earnest at the Stratford Festival.

Six shows from the 2025 season have started rehearsals including Annie and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, MacBeth, Anne of Green Gables, As You Like It, and A Winter’s Tale.

Ann Swerdfager, publicity director at the festival, said some actors are rehearsing for a few different performances at the same time.

The festival also makes all of their own costumes, props and sets.

“People in departments behind the scenes have been hard at work for a number of months now.”

Swerdfager said there is a buzz around the season as preparations move along. She has had a chance to see some behind the scenes work for shows like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and believes audiences will appreciate all that goes into the productions.

There are more than 160 costumes in that performance.

It’s based on the 1988 movie featuring Steve Martin, when a pair of con men try to exploit a wealthy tourist in the French Riviera.

“I think this is really going to be a treat for everyone.”

The play schedule starts in April.

Tickets are available for the 2025 season at stratfordfestival.ca.
