St. Marys resident receives King Charles III Coronation Medal

One local resident has received a prestigious honour.

On Tuesday (March 11), Matthew Rae, MPP for Perth-Wellington presented the King Charles III Coronation Medal to Gwen Ament at the St. Marys council chambers.

Rae said it is people like Ament that make the community stronger and more welcoming.

She was one of only 30,000 recipients across the country.

To be eligible for the medal, recipients must have made signifiant contributions to the country, province, region or community, and was alive for the coronation of King Charles.

Ament said that community has always been important to her because she feels very fortunate to live in a beautiful country and have the privileges she has.

She notes that her “nature is to work collaboratively bringing people together in endeavours that result in healthy, joyful, community.”

Some of Ament’s many accomplishments include helping to settle refugees from Syria and the Ukraine, playing a key role in organizing the To St. Marys With Love community dinner, and working with local indigenous organizations towards reconciliation.
