Stratford resident awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal

A Stratford resident has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his dedicated volunteerism within the community.

George Smith, a devoted member of the Stratford ReStore has been a “cornerstone” of the organization for more than 20 years.

Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario’s CEO Susan Fahner bestowed the medal to Smith at a ceremony today (March 19) at the Restore location on Lorne Avenue.

Fahner said the medal serves as a chance to celebrate the hard work and dedication of Smith.

“So it’s a great opportunity to reward those who’ve really given of themselves, and George is an example of that.”

The 91-year-old was surrounded by his friends, colleagues and family, where he graciously received the medal.

Smith began volunteering in 2004 with the ReStore as a way to give back, but it’s now a place where he connects with friends and makes a difference.
