Lions Club still roaring in Stratford after 100 years of giving back

After a century of giving back to their community, Stratford Lions are gearing up for a bigĀ  celebration to look back and celebrate their achievements.

Chartered in 1925, Stratford Lions volunteers have contributed to major city projectsĀ  including the Lions Pool and Dufferin Lions Arena.

Ray Black of the local Lions said the staying power of the club is due to its membership, who have graciously volunteered their time over the years.

“It’s people in the community that make a service club vibrant.”

The Lions are hosting a 100th anniversary event on May 3 at the Army, Navy and Air Force Unit 261 Hall on Lorne Avenue in Stratford.

Black said some community members will be honoured and it will be an opportunity to learn about the history of the club.

“That will give people an idea of what we have actually done.”
Stratford Lions continue to support local food banks, help residents with acquiring eyeglasses and they also hold an annual sock and bottle drives.
Tickets for $60 can be purchased from any Stratford Lions Member or by emailing stratford@a15lions.org.
