Police remind residents to be cautious of door-to-door solicitors

A possible fraudulent paving crew are making the rounds in St. Marys and Perth County.

Stratford police were alerted this week to crews and are reminding the public to be cautious about door-to-door solicitors.

In previous years, similar paving companies have solicited customers by providing low prices to obtain the work, but failing to finish the job, or providing very low quality work.

Last July, several individuals from the UK were arrested by the Stratford Police Service in relation to a paving fraud in the Stratford area.

Police encourage asking for references and checking them and doing some research on the company.

You can also contact local companies to confirm legitimacy, look for business names on vehicles and check the Better Business Bureau.

Residents should always be wary of persons who ask for payment upfront.
