Bigger and better: Bijou reopens May 6 in Stratford in a new spot

A culinary mainstay is getting a new home after a devastating fire last October.

Bijou Restaurant’s grand reopening is scheduled for May 6.

Mark and Linda Simone took ownership of Bijou in 2015 and were heartbroken after hearing about the fire.

“The outpouring of support through locals, through business, and our expanded patronage through all the visitors that come to Stratford and visit the Bijou, has been enormous. I would say hundreds, but really it’s in the thousands.”

And with tourism season in Stratford fast approaching and the Wellington location delayed in its rebuild, the owners made the bold decision to relocate.

Bijou will operate on the main level of 34 Brunswick Street, as a sister-restaurant to Braai House, which will continue operating on the upper level.

The partnership evolved naturally after the owner reached out the morning after the fire with condolences and offered the lower-level of the Braai for a pop-up opportunity.

Simone says people can expect a new elevated experience with the same Bijou charm.

“But they can also expect that familiar hospitality, that owner-operated feel when you come in, I’m normally there or my wife Linda will be there, we’ll be greeting you and welcoming you back in and about 90 per cent of the bijou team is back with us.”

Guests can expect a modern and stylish ambiance and will feature interior dining for 46, a 14-seat bar and a 44-seat weather protected patio.
