Angie Hurst provides a loving home for unwanted large animals.
Water buffalo, horses, llamas, cattle, donkeys and more will be released into their “field of dreams” at Out of the Ashes Animal Sanctuary on May 24.Â
Currently caring for more than 100 animals that are tucked away in the barn all winter to keep safe and warm, Hurst lets them out into a 42-acre pasture to roam free.
The founder of the sanctuary said animals are always excited to get released.
“Usually they put on quite a show, they like to run around and kick up their heels, it’s better than Christmas in my books.”
Hurst starting fostering animals around 13 years ago, and explained that after they were rehabilitated there wasn’t a need or want for an animal that had medical issues, a senior animal, or an animal that couldn’t be ‘used’ at all.
“I guess you could say I’ve gathered up the misfits and the unwanted in the world and we’ve made a family out of it,” said Hurst.
Located in Sebringville, at the back of the Luckhart Transport property, the rain-or-shine event will see the animals released from their winter barn at 11 a.m. sharp.
Spectators are welcome to come anytime after 10 a.m. to get up close with the animals.
The event is free to attend but donations that goes towards the animal’s care are welcome.
