Local students part of GREEN Leaders summit at Huron University

Grade 7 and 8 students from the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board are joining their peers in London Wednesday for a GREEN Leaders student summit.

Hundreds of students gathering at Huron University have participated in the GREEN Leaders program empowering youth to address local environmental challenges through civic action.

Classes identified environmental issues in their communities — from deforestation and loss of biodiversity to improving recycling in schools and tackling litter — and they designed practical solutions.

Classes developed awareness campaigns, others implemented physical solutions including installing outdoor cigarette waste receptacles.

At the summit, each class will present action projects to a panel of local experts representing academic, government, non-profit, and business sectors.

Panelists offer feedback and recognition, celebrating the students’ creativity, leadership, and commitment to sustainability.

The summit students to share their work, learn from others, and be recognized for contributions to a healthier environment.
