Nice day for a run: LETR partnership builds community

Police officers and Special Olympics athletes have a strong bond.

For years now, they have gathered together with family and friends in many communities to compete in the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Over the years, friendships have started and they continue to blossom.

Stratford Police Community Resource and Media Relations officer, Const. Darren Fischer, said his colleagues look forward to the torch run.

Plenty of police officers took part on Tuesday.

“Really excited and glad to be a part of it every year,” Fischer told MyStratfordNow. “And glad to be able to provide that support and be a part of Special Olympics here in Stratford.”

It was a brisk commute from Stratford police HQ to Boston Pizza for a lunch for the athletes. This year, everyone either ran the route or rode a bike.

Boston Pizza General Manager Kiera DiDiomete said the restaurant is proud of its partnership and happy to provide food and support after a spirited run.

“It’s a great thing to be a part of and at Boston Pizza we have been a part of it for many, many years. We are happy to support Special Olympics and the police here in Stratford.”
