The Local Community Food Centre helps with financial literacy, too

A new workshop is teaching about dollars and common sense.

A one-hour financial literacy workshop is scheduled for next Thursday (June 19) at the Local Community Food Centre in Stratford.

Th workshop is led by educator Bettianne Hedges.

Jen Vredeveld, a program coordinator, said the centre has a great rapport in the community, through a variety of programs.

“A lot of people come in and they look to us for support. They look to us for food security and a big part of that is financial security, too.”

The centre also recently a hosted a free tax clinic. Vredeveld said it’s important to get people all the benefits they are entitled to through the government.

A small group of volunteers help with basic, simple tax returns. You can stop in at one of the community food times or market times or contact the local to set-up an appointment.

“The big goal for this program is to be low to no barrier for accessibility. We have no wait list right now and all of our services are free.”
