UTRCA: Heavy rains but no serious flood concerns

Despite an Environment and Climate Change Canada rainfall warning in Stratford and area on Wednesday, Upper Thames River Conservation Authority does not expect serious flooding.

There was potential for 80 mm of rain in Stratford.

The conservation authority said some smaller drains may reach capacity resulting in some minor flooding and ponding in low lying areas.

The UTRCA’s flood control reservoirs at Wildwood, Fanshawe and Pittock Conservation Areas will be operated to reduce any downstream flooding.

Residents are reminded to use caution near watercourses and stay out of flooded areas. Stream banks can be slippery and unstable, and the water fast-moving. Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from watercourses.

UTRCA said it is not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
