Raising funds and awareness for 11th annual Hike for Hospice

Connections run deep for Elaine Strawbridge and Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth.

Strawbridge has volunteered at the local hospice in reception and direct support and her father spent time there before passing away recently.

She is also captain of Team Wobblies, a group of cyclers and their partners, who are the top fundraisers for Sunday’s Hike for Hospice at Stratford Perth Museum.

The Wobblies have raised nearly $25,000 so far.

“We get out there and we fundraise big time because the hospice is really important to us.”

The overall fundraising goal for the 11th annual event is $130,000.

Julie Docker Johnson said the local hospice allows family members to be family, with love and support provided at an emotional time.

“To have the opportunity to be and continue to make memories, that is what the hospice is all about. And we do hike, so that can continue to happen.”

The hospice gets provincial funding but must raise funds to cover services.

You can still register online as an individual or team and donations are still being accepted.

219 people have signed up, so far.

After an opening ceremony, participants hike through the meadow outside the museum and a barbecue is held afterwards.
