Communities in Bloom on the lookout for city’s best garden

If you spot a stunning garden in your travels, be sure to let Stratford’s Communities in Bloom know about it.

The local committee is now accepting nominations for their best garden contest.

Barb Hacking from Communities In Bloom said the annual event is a great way to spotlight the hard work of local gardeners while growing civic pride.

“If you see a garden, I’m sure you see lots of them here in Stratford, that make you joyful and happy to be in Stratford, please nominate the person.”

Entries should include the person’s name, address, a photo and a short description about why they are nominated.

The Best Garden contest runs until July 30, with winners announced in the middle of August.

Nominations are also now open for the Ted Blowes Community Service Award.

Carys Wyn Hughes with Communities in Bloom said the former teacher and mayor was a mentor to many and a difference maker in the Festival City.

“He was a great part of Communities in Bloom in Stratford. He started Communities in Bloom in Stratford. So it is important that we keep him memory going.”

The award is open to Perth County residents who have volunteered, and made a difference in the community through beautification and education.

Nominations for are accepted until Aug. 15.
