It’s the perfect summertime partnership.
Stratford Summer Music’s MusicBarge returns to the riverside this weekend and it will help support United Way Perth-Huron.
Fifty per cent of donations at performances will go to the local United Way, up to $5,000.
“We appreciate Stratford Summer Music once again choosing to donate half of the proceeds from their MusicBarge program to our annual campaign,” said United Way Executive Director Ryan Erb.
“It’s a win-win for everyone. We are encouraging people to come down and see the show and when they get there, they have an opportunity to make a donation that can help both organizations.”
Adjacent to The Boathouse at 30 York Street, the MusicBarge is SSM’s floating stage, docked at the banks of the Avon River.
It is home to many free outdoor concerts.
This year’s MusicBarge program runs four consecutive weekends Friday to Sunday, starting tomorrow with music at noon and 2:30 p.m.
The final event is set for Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m.
Performers this year include York Street Thought Process, Notes from Underground, Bayfield Ukulele Society, Barclay Road Brassworks, The Maria Soulis Trio, Jazz Academy, Rose Soenen, The Bookends, Vocal Academy, the Nathan Hiltz Trio and Summer’s Last Sound.
Erb explained Stratford Summer Music is just one of the many area organizations the United Way partners with to help those in need.
“We have a lot of relationships with organizations and people in the community that will raise money for us. It works out so great because we only have so much time here with our own volunteers and staff. We are so thankful when others step up and help us reach what will be another increased fundraising goal heading into the fall.”
SSM Executive Director Crystal Spicer said they are thrilled to partner with United Way to amplify community impact through MusicBarge events.
“Together, we’re harmonizing the power of music with charitable giving, ensuring every note contributes to a stronger, more vibrant community.”
Paid and accessible parking is available at the York Street parking lot. Public washrooms are available at The Boathouse. There are also paved, wheelchair accessible paths along the river.
United Way’s annual campaign aims to raise funds to help reduce poverty, support mental health and well-being, and address other pressing local issues.
