Dan Kane has been given the keys to the throne for Rotary Club of Stratford.
At a meeting on June 26, Rotary Club President Craig Pierce handed over the gavel to Kane, officially making Kane the club’s new president.
With the Rotary year starting this month, Kane says the theme for this year is Unite For Good.
“The unite part is looking at not only the Rotary Club of Stratford, not only the other clubs in the area, but we’re also looking at everybody that helps Rotary,” said Kane.
“If you’re on the Aquabox side of things, if you’re a global medic, you’re one of our partners and you’re uniting with us for good.”
He says for this part of the theme, they recently worked with the Downie Optimists and the Kinsmen, with both organizations having helped the club out with the AquaBox.
For the second part of Unite For Good, he says it’s unite based on time.
“For the Rotary Club of Stratford, we’re uniting across 103 years,” said Kane.
“ We have members who have been with us for 50-58 years, we have members who joined two weeks ago, and yesterday I got another application from another member. We’ve got to unite that history we have and knowing that Rotary changes for different people and how you engage in it is going to change.”
Currently at 103 members, Kane says they will support smaller clubs in the district by travelling to places like Mitchell or St. Mary’s and help with extra manpower.
Rotary Club host their 20th annual golf tournament Wednesday at Stratford Country Club, followed by Summer Social on July 31 and the Dragon Boat Festival Sept. 13.
