You’ll get to see multiple stop motion films all in one special screening on Saturday.
The Art Of Stop Motion is a collaboration screening between Stratford Film Festival and SpringWorks. It will show eight stop motion films from different eras, ranging from 1977 to 2024.
According to the film festival, the screening aims to celebrate the beauty, creativity, and emotional depth of stop motion animation.
Film Festival Executive Director Megan Smith-Harris says when you do stop motion, it is 24 frames per second in film, meaning that you “have to have 24 different photographs of something incrementally moving.”
She says some of the films in this screening have dialogue while others don’t.
“It’s amazing that they can tell these really deep stories in short periods of time with no dialogue,” said Smith-Harris.
The films include several shorts and documentaries, such as Higglety Pigglety Pop! or There Must Be More to Life, Subservience, Dream, and The Passion and Puppetry of Ronnie Burkett.
Smith-Harris says the films are for adults, but children aged 11 and above can attend with parental guidance because some of the shorts contain ‘dark’ themes.
The screening takes place at City Hall Auditorium Saturday at 4 p.m.
Tickets can be bought from the film festival website.
