Your pets can get vaccinated for rabies for as low as $30 each.
Huron Perth Public Health announced the partnership with Blyth Veterinary Services to offer three low-cost rabies vaccination clinics to local pet owners.
Public Health said the goal of the clinics is to vaccinate as many pets as possible for owners on a tight budget.
“In Ontario, all domestic dogs, cats and ferrets are legally required to be vaccinated against rabies from age three months and continuously throughout their lives,” the organization said via a media release.
“Public health inspectors review vaccination certificates when animal incidents, such as a bite or scratch, are reported to the health unit.”
Public health inspector Patrick Landry says while cases of rabies in Canadians is rare, vaccinating your pets lowers the risk of spreading the disease to people and other animals.
“Rabies is still found regularly in the wildlife population in Ontario, most commonly in bats and sometimes in raccoons, foxes, and skunks,” said Landry.
“Rabies is a fatal disease to humans.”
Public Health adds for these clinics, no appointments are required and you need to pay $30 cash per animal. A low cost microchipping service will be offered at the clinics.
Two clinics are located at Blyth Veterinary Services on 234 Queen St. S., Blyth, with the first one open Aug. 8 from 1-4 p.m., and the second Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The last clinic will open Sept. 3 at St. Helen’s Community Hall on 85656 St. Helen’s Line from 1-4 p.m.
