City adds new mobility buses to its fleet, mayor remembers dedicated driver

The city is adding two new mobility buses to its fleet.

Stratford City Council approved the purchase of $345,600 this week.

Two-thirds of the funding comes from the federal and provincial governments.

One of the buses replaces a 2013 model, the other is an addition to the fleet, bringing the city’s compliment to six.

Stratford Mayor Martin Ristma said the challenge is the buses age out.

Ritsma said with an aging population, there is an increasing demand for mobility buses.

The mayor added that the service recently lost one of its drivers, Larry Sayers, who passed away on Aug. 10.

He drove mobility bus for 15 years.

“Larry, like all of the individuals who drive our buses, are more than caregivers. They are so compassionate and committed to their work. Larry will be missed by his friends, colleagues and family.”
