Time to saddle up. The Scott Woods Band are coming to Mitchell.
The band are performing a show called Yee Haw, a variety country event paying tribute to Hee-Haw, a TV show that featured country music. The show ran from 1969 to 1993.
Vocalist and Canadian Fiddle Champion Scott Woods says while it’s a tribute, the concert is “really not Hee-Haw.”
“We actually don’t mention Hee-Haw anywhere in the show,” said Woods.
“Folks will certainly recognize some parts as reminiscent of the TV show. You combine that with Don Messer’s Jubilee and Tommy Hunter’s show, and you get this great big variety show.”
He describes the humor in this show as kind of corny, but clean and family-friendly.
“We have lots of costumes, my sister (Kendra) does a mini-pearl shtick, and I sit on the stool and tell a very inspirational story, reminiscent of Tommy Hunter.”
Woods adds along with the humour, the band will also pay tribute to Stompin’ Tom Connors, as well as feature trick fiddling and step-dancing.
The band is comprised of Scott on fiddle and vocals, Kendra (Woods) Norris as pianist, fiddle, accordion and vocals, drummer and step-dancer Leo Stock, guitarist Steve Piticco, and bassist Kurk Bernard.
Tickets can be bought online.
The show runs at Main Street United Church on Sept. 27.
