With so much activity around the waterfront, Tom Patterson Island was as good a spot as any for an Artificial External Defibrillator (AED).
The placement of the AED is through a partnership between Andrew’s Legacy and the City of Stratford.
It is the 74th AED instillation from the charity and the first in Stratford.
The charitable organization places AEDs at public locations including sports fields and raises awareness in memory of Andrew Stoddart, who died at the age of 15 of sudden cardiac arrest at a soccer game on May 11, 2015.
The AED is connected to hydro so it will always be charged and is contained in a heated case.
Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma said Tom Patterson Island is an appropriate location given activities on the Avon River and the number of people active in the area.
Signage is in place to alert passersby to its presence.
