Everyone plays a role during Road Safety Month in St. Marys

What better month than September to remind residents to “slow down, stay alert and make choices that protect the most vulnerable.”

Road Safety Month is underway in St. Marys and the town are sharing reminders and resources to help drivers, pedestrians and seniors stay safe.

With school back in session that includes watching for crossing guards, obeying bus signals, and stopping for pedestrians at crossovers.

Drivers should keep an eye out for community safety zones where speed limits are reduced around schools, playgrounds, and senior residences.

You can also slow down and respect bus loading and posted speed limits.

The town noted that seniors face unique challenges when they are out and about and they have supports to help them travel safely and confidently, however, safe roads are built on awareness, respect, and shared responsibility.

Thomas Redman, Public Works Coordinator, said road safety is about protecting people and small decisions such as slowing down can make a difference.

Residents are encouraged to follow the Town’s Facebook page over the next month for reminders and tips on how to be part of the solution.
