The 40-year anniversary of the Stratford Terry Fox Run on Sept. 14 will again offer residents a chance to run, walk, or cycle at Upper Queens Park to raise money for cancer research.
Stratford organizer Rena Spevack said the theme this year is Finish It.
“They have a quote from Terry and he said even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue, it’s got to keep going without me,” said Spevack.
Spevack has participated in the cancer research fundraiser for 25 years, adding she’s still going because of the positive results from years of research.
“They say the percentage of children diagnosed with all childhood cancers expected to be alive five years after diagnosis is 94 percent,” said Spevack.
“Since we’ve started, we’ve got about $412,000 for Stratford alone.”
The run will have no entry fee, and residents can register either online or on-site, with free refreshments available for participants.
The run starts at 8:30 a.m., and wraps up at 1 p.m.
