Ongoing campaign aims to support Stratford seniors through shopping

By buying local, you can get fellow residents the transportation they need for medical care.

ONE Care Home & Community Support Services has launched the Shop for Seniors Campaign, where local businesses in Stratford, St. Marys, Wingham, and Dashwood will donate a portion of their sales proceeds to the not-for-profit this September.

The goal is to raise $500,000 so ONE Care can buy new, accessible vehicles to bring more seniors and other people in need to medical appointments, community programs, grocery shopping, and social runs.

ONE Care Executive Director Stephanie Ellens-Clarke said their current fleet is aging.

“We have 16 vehicles in our fleet and they are aging, so we need to replace them,” said Ellens-Clarke. “We have people on dialysis that have to get to their appointments, and it’s saving a life if you can provide transportation or go to an Adult day program.”

With transportation being one of the biggest barriers for people living at home, Ellens-Clarke adds getting these supports is a big deal for our rural community.

The businesses participating in the campaign include Demetre’s Family Eatery, Paws On Patrol, Discover Chiropractic, Hayter’s Farm, Mosaic Outfitters, The RAD Studio, and St. Marys Golf & Country Club.

The campaign runs until the end of September.
