A temporary shelter for the homeless during the winter months is one of the topics for Monday’s council meeting.
Councillor Geza Wordofa will be bringing forward a motion regarding the possibility of adding a temporary winter shelter, which would be in the Rotary Complex, into the next city budget.
Jason Davis was the co-founder of Stratford Affordable Housing Alliance, and he will be speaking at the meeting.
“I think the Rotary Complex as a location is not optimal whatsoever,” said Davis.
“It’s very far away from the services they rely on, and it’s kind of on the outskirts of the town. It’s not really great for what it is, but if the city is saying it’s the only location we can possibly house the unhoused, then that’s what we have to go with.”
Davis said he’ll focus on how recent reporting shows 50 percent of households in Canada live paycheque to paycheque, and how there’s more services in Stratford ready to help unhoused animals instead of people.
BDO Canada Consultant Stephen Landers will also be speaking.
According to the agenda, he’ll provide an example looking into housing and homelessness.
The meeting takes place September 8, starting at 7:00 p.m.
